CHT 1.8 Mod: Smaller HD Mini Unlock Button

As many of you probably know, Co0kie’s Home Tab modoffers the ability to use various lockscreens. The HD Mini lockscreen unlocks by sliding a large beam down. XDA member G-ThGraf found that the unlock button is simply too big, which means that there is less space to place information on the lockscreen. G-ThGraf made this little mod, which allows for a lot more information to be viewed; he resized the button to 50% of its original size. The mod only works for devices with Co0kie’s Home Tab mod installed; the original manila-independent HDMini lockscreen is not supported.

Hi guys, i love HD mini lockscreen but the bar for unlock is too big for me, so i made a new one little bit smaller!

There are currently three lockscreens for CHT: Windows, HDMini and Sense. Although originally these are coming from different programs, XDA developer Co0kieMonster developed these lockscreens in Manila code. This makes it easier to switch between these from one place (CHT Editor). The mod by G-ThGraf is just one example of possibilities. The mod works for any device with Co0kie’s Home Tab 1.8, which is the newest available version. There are also different flavours of this mod: A button with text, with an icon or a simple arrow.

It’s nice to see some mods coming, but I would like to see more. If the lockscreens can be customized this much, why not make an outstanding one where you have to unlock by drawing a circle or something like that? The manila code opens many doors for new designs. For example, MaxSense andGTX Sense are both based on Manila code. So, what would you like to see? Let us know by sharing your ideas here!

HTC Sense for Windows Phone 7 Good if the HTC HD2 gets Winodws phone 7

On Windows Mobile, equipment manufacturers are generally allowed to create any kind of user interface replacement that thay want. With Windows Phone 7, Microsoft is taking more responsibility for the user interface design and that means less flexibility for companies like Samsung, HTC, Sony, LG, Motorola,Dell, etc. to differentiate. On the plus side, that means more consistency from the user perspective.

However, it would seem that the Windows Phone 7 hardware partners are allowed to bundle their own applications with Windows Phone 7 devices, and that could include custom live tiles on the home screen. What if HTC created their own custom live tiles that resembled their popular "Sense" user interface?

Obviously the above image is a mockup, but you can see how HTC might be able to add their own flip clock animated tile, maybe an animated weather tile, and perhaps some application icons for things like Footprints, Twitter, Stocks, or any of their other custom applications they might add. Of course, the user would still have the native option to rearrange/move or remove the manufacturer's live tiles, but some custom HTC tiles might be pretty nice to have. What do you think? Could HTC already be working on something like this?

bing has free turn-by-turn navigation for htc hd2

We’re happy to announce two new features to the Bing app for Windows phones. The first is a redesign to the home page. We changed the navigation to give people faster access to common searches, such as Movies and Traffic. The second feature is turn-by-turn navigation for Windows 6.x phones, powered by Bing Maps. We took advantage of the Microsoft Tellme team’s expertise in voice applications to deliver an amazingly lifelike voice experience for the turn-by-turn navigation. If you have a Windows phones on Sprint, T-Mobile, or AT&T you can use the voice guided navigation.

Now when getting directions with Bing, you’ll see a new “Navigate” button. By selecting it, Bing will calculate your route, and guide you as you drive. You can select the fastest or shortest route, choose to avoid traffic and/or tolls, get a map or a list of directions, and see arrows and hear alerts to know which way to turn next.

HTC HD2 gets Windows Phone 7 Series whether Microsoft likes it or not

Microsoft might have given a flat out no on numerous occasions, but where there is a will there is a way. That's clearly the feeling for one developer who has managed to port the new Windows Phone 7 Series operating system to theHTC HD2 mobile phone.

The phone, which has been available in the UK since November 2009, has just gone on sale in the US on the T-Mobile network.

The hack, which is presumed to be using a developers code version of the operating system, uses two of the five buttons on HD2 for Start and Back functions. Journalists covering the story predict that that the search button might be later remapped to Home button.

One of the reasons for the HD2 not getting a Windows Phone 7 Series update is down to the button configuration under the screen with Microsoft insisting that all Windows Phone 7 Series handsets come with just three keys: Start, Back and Search.

The news is likely to annoy both Microsoft and HTC as the official launch of the operating system and accompanying handsets hasn't been set.

Currently Microsoft is stating "The Holidays" as the launch window.

HTC has confirmed that it will be a launch partner with at least one handset for the official launch.

Save Battery with Screen Off

One of the biggest problems that our devices (and pretty much any device for that matter) have is the fact that the screen eats a lot of battery power. The best way to go about it, is simply press the power (standby) button. However, there is a catch. If you have a GPS enabled device you will lose your satellite locks; if you have Wifi on, more than likely it will turn itself off until you resume; if you are playing music, it will stop and won’t resume until you turn the device on once again. On top of all that, making the device sleep while apps are running will make your device unstable and therefore, force you to soft reset.
To solve this dilemma, XDA member virgilp has come up with a very simple application to save from all this. The app does exactly what its name suggests, it turns off the screen but doesn’t turn off the device. I know that this can be easily done via a few registry and power option tweaks, but this is pre-done and packaged for simplicity and to save people from having to use registry editors.
This is my first WM app that I’ve developed about a year ago and I thought I post it here maybe someone else will find it useful.
This application simply turns off the screen on the device, without putting it to sleep. I use it to save battery when i connect my phone to the PC to sync or to copy large amount of data.
It was tested on HTC Touch HD with WM 6.1 and 6.5.3.
It DOES NOT require .NET Compact Framework. Just install the cab and launch the shortcut from Programs.
Enjoy!

XDA Market – A Completely Free App Store

XDA member davidgiga presents this magnificent application for Windows Mobile devices. This app allows you to upload and download apps for free (note that it’s not an officially-supported XDA app). The host site from the developer is new and there are no applications available yet. As with any market, this will work when a lot of people starts using it and upload apps to the site. Tested on WVGA resolutions, but should work in others as well.
Developer also will add a PC version soon. This project is young but with help, we can make it a great tool. Please take a look and leave some feedback.

google voice

It is finally over! The trial period for Google Voice in the United States has finished, and Google has moved to allowing US customers to get this service – no invite required! There are some 1 million people using Google Voice at the moment and Craig Walker (person in charge of running this service) says that there is a lot more coming in the very near future.

“Today, after lots of testing and tweaking, we’re excited to open up Google Voice to the public, no invitation required,” wrote Walker. “Over a million of you are now actively using Google Voice, and many of the features released over the past year (like SMS to email and our Chrome extension) came as a result of your suggestions, so thanks!”
